Financial Management by a Left-Brain Dominant Person
Dear Readers,
I discussed about Right
brain dominant person in last blog, I will write about peculiar characteristics
of a Left-Brain Dominant persons and their strengths and weakness in relation
to Financial Management.
Left brain is responsible
for logic, number crunching, data, language, observation as well as intra
personal intelligence. Those with dominant left brain need a lot of data before
deciding on anything, they have ability to understand & analyze large data,
find patterns in numbers, they are good at calculations and establishing
logical reasoning in almost anything. Such persons may lack intuition and may
not be able to decide unless the numbers are favorable. Such people are too objective
in decision making and tend to miss the subjective or emotional component of
the same.
It is highly recommended
for left brain dominant people to be in Finance, engineering or data analytics.
Can we conclude that such people are really good at Financial management? Apparently
yes, they would be disciplined and would rarely miss deadlines, they are always
ready with calculations about the possible loss if any date is missed or
payment/receipt is delayed.
Such people are
meticulous and are aware of tiny details but may lose sight of a broader
picture. Such people can easily end up in “Analysis Paralysis” i.e. they
do excessive analysis even for small aspects. We can also call such people as “Penny
wise Pound Foolish”. Normally other people who are close to left brain
dominant persons and are right brain dominant find it difficult to understand
the need for analysis, they will find all the number crunching as waste of
effort. This can create friction.
These persons need to
avoid analysis paralysis and go ahead with decision making at some point of
time/situation. For that too, they will have to figure out a base line below
which they will not analyze and just decide based on likes and dislikes. In business
they can delegate the small & trivial aspects and consciously avoid
interfering the same. This will release a large chunk of time for them which
can be used to focus on relevant data analysis or doing some activities which
will trigger right brain and unleash creativity.
It can never be concluded
about which side of the brain is better, since both the sides are given to all
and are functional in difference proportions, it is obvious the differences
will remain. What we should focus at depends on the extent of left or right
brain dominance and reducing the impact of its extremity on our own personal wellbeing
(physical, mental, emotional, and most important financial, spiritual wellbeing
can also be included as spirituality is by and large a right brain function
initially later at deeper level if understanding one can find logic and
reasoning in spirituality as well) and impact on people close to us. The best
way to induce higher activity in the non-dominant brain is to play games or
solve riddles which will trigger the non-dominant brain.
For Ex. To trigger
right brain (to be done by left brain dominant persons) – play jigsaw puzzles,
use of mind mapping diagrams for important decisions.
To trigger the left
brain – play sudoku, mental math or logic puzzles.
Remember the optimum
balance is known as “Golden Mean” which is the crux of everything.
