Financial Management of a Right Brain Dominant Person

 Welcome back after the weekend.

As we all are aware that, we have 2 sides of the brain viz, the right and the left. Each side is further divided in 5 lobes each forming total 10 distinguishable lobes. But today’s topic is limited to Right brain in general. Each side of the brain is functional and necessary for certain specific tasks/activities. Every normal person has both the sides functional but the capacity of each side may be different thereby creating differences in behavior and decision making.

Let’s look into typical characteristics of a right brain dominant person. Right brain in general is responsible for creativity, art, abstract ideas, emotions, empathy, music, aesthetics etc. What we can make out is, abstract ideas or creativity is never bound by discipline, it cannot fit in to calculations and it cannot be measured. Thus, such people generally cannot fall in discipline, they prefer to be free and work only when they feel like. They hate the 9 to 5 culture. They are emotional and empathetic. They can sound illogical and irrational.

But as we know, both the sides of the brain are functional and the difference is only in the capacity of each side, thus, the ratio of dominance of right brain will decide how skewed the person will behave.

All the artists, musicians, painters etc. fall in this category. As mentioned above they, hate discipline and for good financial management, discipline is the most important factor. One can find such people frequently forgetting about regular statutory compliance, not maintaining enough balance for the EMI’s thus, having bounced EMI’s, not maintaining the required documentation in proper order thereby making it difficult for any accountant to compile the accounts.

What is the way to keep the things in order for such people, particularly if they are in business? The most simplistic answer would be to appoint a person who is exactly opposite i.e. who is left brain dominant, who can compliment and cover the weakness of a right brain dominant entrepreneur. The solution actually may not work because these two people will find it difficult to tolerate each other.

My idea is just to give a glimpse of such extreme behavior patterns, which are based on the nature and nurture. It is rare (but not impossible) that any person is extremely right/left brain dominant naturally but the possibility is higher about skewed nurturing.

It is possible for such persons to change themselves with professional help to a reasonable extent which will enable them avoid mishaps or financial blunders easily. But it is obvious, if such people are disciplined too much will lose creativity which is the crux of their existence. It is necessary to strike a golden mean.
